Ashley Graham’s Hairstylist Uses the Same Trick as Meghan Markle for Taming Fly-Aways

Ever wonder how there’s nary a bump or fly-away on a celeb ponytail? Well, it turns out there’s a secret trick to keeping updos smooth and pristine and both Ashley Graham’s hairstylist and Meghan Markle swear by it. When we chatted with celebrity hairstylist Justine Marjan for an end-of-year Celebeauty Sit-Down, she dished on her unexpected go-to tricks and revealed that a toothbrush comes in mighty handy.

Marjan, whose clients include Graham, Karlie Kloss, Kim Kardashian, Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Dorit Kemsley and more, explained, “I keep a toothbrush in my kit to use with hairspray, gel or pomade to slick down hair.” (PS: Her favorite pick for hairspray is Tresseme Micro Mist hairspray, $23, for hold and texture.)

She went on to say that she’ll even mist a makeup powder brush with hairspray “to brush down fly-away hairs without losing volume or disrupting the style.” Genius.

And to prevent hair breakage (which leads to fly-aways in the first place), Marjan swears by OLLY Undeniable Beauty ($12) gummy vitamins to promote healthy hair.

Interestingly, the 38-year-old Duchess of Sussex keeps a toothbrush handy when battling stray hairs, too. She told Birchbox during a 2014 interview, “For my fly-aways, I spray hairspray on a small boar bristle toothbrush (a regular toothbrush also works great!) to lightly brush them down or smooth the hairline. This is especially good for a sleek bun when I am off-camera.”

It seems great minds think alike. We’re filing this low-budget hack away for personal use.
