1. Prep & Blow-dry
First, Lux applied Dove Style + Care Smooth & Shine Heat Protection Spray ($5) throughout Pugh’s locks and blow-dried it with the ghd Helios Hairdryer ($249) and ghd Ceramic Vented Radial Brush in size 3 ($40) to create a smooth and shiny texture.
2. Add Volume
From there, Lux ran the ghd Platinum+ Deep Scarlet Styler ($249) over her hair and along the hairline in an upwards motion toward her crown, spraying it with Dove Care Between Washes Clarifying Dry Shampoo ($5) to add volume to her roots.
3. Knot It Up
With her hair prepped and ready, Lux says he “took two small sections at the front and tied them into a knot at the top of her head.” Next, he added two strands from either side of her head at the ear and “looped them into the ends of the first knot and tied it all into another knot.” Lux continued this pattern until he reached her brows. Then, Lux continued his process from the nape of her neck up to the crown, spraying Dove Style+ Care Micro Mist Flexible Hold Hairspray ($5) throughout in order to make sure the knots held together.
4. Put a Pin (Or Several) In It
Next, Lux says he “interlinked the top knotted section with the back knotted section by tying them together across the top of her head and pinning them close to the crown.” He left the ends out and “took a piece of Hidden Crown Clip In Extensions, cut it to about three-inches to match the length of the ends that I left out of the knots and pinned it underneath one of the loops at the crown of Florence’s head.” Talk about involved.
5. Add Finishing Touches
Last but not least, Lux molded the left out section into the shape of a fan with the ghd Scarlet Styler so the ends peeked out at the top of her head. He finished with a spritz of Dove hairspray, tamed fly-always with the ghd tail comb ($22) and voilá.
The question remains: Would it look as good if we did this ourselves? Probably not.
