Sure, our fave celebs have a team of professional artists helping them get glam, but that doesn’t mean we can’t recreate some of our favorite stars' beauty looks ourselves. And, even better, we can do it without breaking the bank.
Exhibit A: Florence Pugh’s side-swept swirls from the Critics’ Choice Awards.
Hairstylist Peter Lux used a look he once spotted on a runway in Paris for Pugh’s ’do.
“We decided the hair should be up to show off the beautiful details of the dress,” said Lux. “I like to keep my hairstyles modern, and therefore like to work with wetter textures. I had seen a similar swept overlook at a fashion show in Paris years ago and it came back to me today and just felt right. I played with a few variations in the mirror and landed on what we felt was most flattering for Florence’s face.”
Ready to recreate it? Yeah, same. Just follow Lux's directions here: Starting with damp hair, spray with a heat protection spray and blow-dry. Once completely dry, apply mousse to the roots and divide hair into two sections (as if parting it from ear to ear over the head). Next, taking the section at the back of her head, tie it into a tight, sleek ponytail at the crown of the head and brush the front section of hair upwards and over to the right to create a continuous sweeping motion starting at the left ear along the hairline.
Then, lay the ponytail into a swirl shape along the silhouette of the head and secure with bobby pins (of course). Create a second swirl with the ends of the front section and (again) secure with pins. Finish with hairspray and voilá!
