I Tried the Doja Cat x BH Cosmetics Collection and Here’s Everything You Should Buy (and Skip)

The Elements Mini Shadow Quad is fine. I appreciate the compact size of the palette and how it has four coordinating shades to choose from. However, it would’ve been better if it had a mix of shimmer and matte options instead of all glitter shadows.

When it comes to pay off, the shimmers fall flat. For a second, I can see the shine but it’s not anything to write home about. It was so subtle that you have to be super close up (and in direct light) to even see a glimmer. Honestly, the mega palette has similar shades (and even a bigger and brighter selection). In sum, if you’re easily overwhelmed by too many color options, the mini palettes are your best bet. If you want more impact, skip this and go for the mega palette.

Prism Loose Powder Highlighter in Champagne

The sun has major competition. Seriously, this powder highlighter packs a punch. The first time I tried it, I made the mistake of putting on too much and was nearly blinded by the shimmer. That said, the formula is buildable and blendable (especially with the help of the fanning brush from the 10-piece brush set in the collection). When applied with the brush, it leaves a glowing finish (emphasis on glowing) and not like you fell into a vat of glitter.

The Mega shadow palette is the star of the collection. Whether you want to create an everyday look or a bold style for a night out, this palette has 36 (yes, 36) colors to get the job done. I appreciate the range of shades (and the mix of mattes and shimmers) so you can rock a new eye number every day of the week if you wanted to. As someone who has been experimenting with color recently, I appreciate having so many options to choose from. With the Mega palette, I can easily alternate between subtle, nude looks and vibrant statement eyes whenever I feel like it.

As for pigment and payoff, I give it an A+. I did a swatch test of the brightest shades (like “Mystic,” “Transform” and “Wild”) and wasn’t disappointed at the outcome. Just one swipe will bring out the hues (which you can see here on Doja). Moreover, the shadows are easy to build and blend and are extremely long-lasting. They even survived my marathon commute through NYC last week.

Goddess Calligraphy Eyeliner in Black and White

The Goddess Calligraphy Eyeliner is a hit or miss depending on how you’re using it. See, the eyeliner is great for adding intricate details and cleaning up the edges. However, for a regular cat-eye, the formula is too light for my liking. Don’t get me wrong, the pigment is there. It just comes off a bit too sheer, as the consistency is thinner than some other liners I’ve used in the past.

I do enjoy the applicator though, which is a slim tip that glides smoothly onto the lid. Creating the eyeliner was important for the singer, who stated, “I worked with the BH Cosmetics team as closely as possible to make the easy-to-use, high-impact liner of my dreams.” It certainly is easy to use; I also enjoy that it’s smudge-proof so if I accidentally rub my eyes (which happens more often than it should), it won’t show up on the backs of my hands.

The Blooming Volumizing and Lengthening Mascara lives up to its name. One swipe and my lashes were lifted to the skies. It’s all thanks to the peculiarly shaped wand. The tip is round and globelike, which was super confusing at first, until I realized how helpful it was at reaching those pesky inner lashes (and my lower lashes). The bristles sweep through every little lash and define them with ease. It’s formulated to be flake-free, smudge-free and quick-drying. Thankfully, the mascara delivers on all fronts.

Muse Plumping Lip Gloss in Nude, Berry and Clear

I’m always team lip gloss so I was pumped to see a variety of them in the collection. The glosses are supposed to plump your lips and leave behind a high shine. While I felt the tingling sensation almost immediately upon application, I didn’t see much difference in the plumpness of my pout. (My lips are naturally plumped though, so take my results with a grain of salt.)

When it comes to the shades, some were winners and others were...I liked the “Nude” shade, which blended well with my natural lip color. It leaves more of a pinkish finish and doesn’t make my skin look too pale or wash me out (which I have had issues with in the past). The “Berry” shade was my favorite because of how the color popped on my lips (even though technically all of the glosses are sheer). The one shade I would skip is “Clear.” Since it’s a transparent shade, it doesn’t even look like I’m wearing gloss—even with multiple coats. Overall, I enjoyed how comfortable the gloss felt on my lips. Even wearing it all day, my lips didn’t get dry, sticky or chapped. (I have a feeling the vitamin E in the formula has a lot to do with that.)

Mirage Lip Balm in Clear, Heavy Tint and Light Tint

A tinted lip balm is right up my alley. It’s my go to when I need something quick but also want to look like I put some effort into my look. Whether you pick the “Clear,” “Heavy” or “Light Tint,” they’re designed to enhance the natural pH of your skin. I definitely saw that play out with all three shades. Another major pro is that the balms are super lightweight and hydrating on my lips. I only needed one (or two) swipes to get a nice finish without looking too overdone.

Final Thoughts

When it comes to the Doja Cat x BH Cosmetics collaboration, my favorites are the mega palette, the powder highlighter and the mascara. They deliver on pigmentation, are easy to apply and wear well. I can see myself playing around with different looks and unleashing my inner Doja using the collection. That’s definitely what the singer wanted her fans (and makeup mavens) to do with her line. As she shared with us, “I hope the collection will spark the creativity for others to imagine their own universes and discover their own unique makeup techniques and tricks.”
