6 Beauty Trends to Break Up with in 2017
Blame it on Instagram
Listen, we are all about trying out new things at least once. (Hello, unicorn lipstick.) And while some of these trends are absolutely mesmerizing to watch on YouTube tutorials, they tend to be a tad too time consuming (and a little too flashy) for our everyday lives. So, fellow beauty lovers, these are the six things we’re done with in 2017.
It was fun for a while, but you know that things have gotten a wee out of hand when people start using random household objects as a guide to get the job done. Also, we are not all juts and angles, people, and that’s OK. A little blush can be surprisingly slimming (and much more subtle).
Some iridescent sheen on our cheekbones or a twinkle near our eyes? Yes, please. A strip of metallic you could see from a mile away? No thanks.
The Instagram Brow
You know it. You’ve seen it. You may have even tried it. The extra-large, super-dark and overly arched brows came as an overcorrection to all the tweezing we did back in the ’90s, but they're fooling no one. This year, we’re sticking to what we’ve got. (Well, maybe we’ll just fill in that bald patch that won’t seem to grow back.)
Baking (Your Makeup That Is)
Also known as dousing your face in setting powder, letting it sink in and hoping you remember to blend it all the way in before leaving the house. And though it certainly gives makeup more mileage on your skin, it’s also a photo hazard waiting to happen. From now on, we’re only baking cookies.
Two words: Duck face. There is a fine line (or a rather thick one) between making your pout look plumper and looking like you’re having an allergic reaction. Let us all ease up on the liner and maybe just add a touch of gloss to the middle of our lips for a subtler enhancement.
Symmetrical Barrel Curls
Put down the dryer. Skip your standing appointment for blowouts. Sleep more. It's all about embracing your natural texture this year (with a little help from a good styling product, obvi).
