Lupita Nyong’o can do no wrong in our eyes--hello, Prada peacock flapper dress that absolutely nobody else could pull off. She even does purple lipstick right: bold but sheer, bright enough to pop but subtle enough to be pretty.
At the new Gold Coast makeup studio Dorothy & Delora, owners Rebecca Males and Susan Staley showed us how to copy the look:
Pick purples with a blue undertone for a softer, brighter look. (It’ll even make your teeth seem whiter.) Avoid a red cast, which can look vampy and too dark for spring.
Prep your lips with a moisturizing balm. Then apply a matte purple color like Kevyn Aucion’s Persistence.
For deeper pigmentation, dab on a tiny bit of matching purple eye shadow in the center of your lips. Use your finger to gently blend it just slightly toward the corners of your mouth.
Finish with a purple gloss like Nars’s Larger Than Life or YSL’s Violine Out of Control, a shiny but subtle stain that you can wear on its own if you’re not ready for full-on commitment.
