Water Cooler Talk: January 19, 2015
A cheat sheet of this week's conversation starters
Last week, we learned that C.Wonder called it quits and that Jimmy Fallon blew it with Nicole Kidman. This week, we're kicking things off with Oscars shockers.
Oscars Be Snubbin'
The 2015 Oscar nominees are in. And they're the whitest since 1998, excluding any people of color from all four acting categories and critically acclaimed Selma director Ava DuVernay (a black female). Another surprise: the omission of The LEGO Movie from Best Animated Feature. Although, its director is still awesome.
Oscars Be Flubbin'
The early-morning Oscar announcements also gave the Internet its first great gaffe of 2015. (The next Adele Dazeem if you will.) Academy president Cheryl Boone was supposed to read the name of cinematographer Dick Pope. Instead? Well, just watch.
Chipotle Stands Up for Standards
Committed to strict animal-welfare policies, the fast-food chain has pulled pork off its menus at over 1,700 locations (because of an unnamed violation from one of its vendors). We're more than happy to wait on our carnitas for good reason.
John Galliano Returned to the Runway
The controversial designer--whose drunken, anti-Semetic tirade in 2011 caused his dismissal from Dior--has reportedly sobered up and officially returned to fashion. Galliano staged his comeback last week as creative director for Maison Margiela.
The Super Bowl Teams Are In
Yesterday's NFL semifinals determined that the New England Patriots will play the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl on February 1. May the hottest quarterback win.
