7 Things to Do in Dallas Right Now
And thank goodness they’re not all outdoors
Barbecues. Weddings. Weekend getaways. Your agenda may be packed, but that’s no excuse to miss out on these seven things happening in the city right now. And surprisingly, not all of them will have you melting under the sun, either.
Watching Shakespeare in the Park
This is the last weekend to see the side-splitting three-man show The Compleat Wrks of Wllm Shkspr, which compresses all 37 of the Bard’s works into 90 minutes. Grab your beau, pick up Eatzi’s and get ready to laugh under the stars. Tickets are still available for this closing cannot-miss play.
Let’s talk about the recently opened Cake Bar. The new dessert spot located in Trinity Groves has some of the moistest slices in 14 rotating flavors like strawberry, key lime, wedding cake and Neapolitan, which has layers of chocolate, strawberry and white butter cake for those of us who can’t make up their mind.
Checking out Detroit’s Finest
Forget a Detroit-made car--go for a Detroit-made bicycle. Or watch. Or dog bed. Or leather agenda. Motor City-based Shinola is now open in downtown Plano and it's the place to find a gift for that hard-to-shop-for friend (or, you know, yourself).
Taking Free Art Tours
Through the rest of the summer, DMA is offering free admission (and AC) for every exhibit, every day, all-day, including Late Nights, Story Time and the new Pop-Up Art Spot where you can create a masterpiece yourself and take home.
Dallas Museum of Art, 1717 N. Harwood; 214-922-120 or dma.org
Bishop Cider Company has a seasonal collection of ciders brewing right now, including flavors such as Strawberry, Crackberry, Nectar and Cideways (a truly apple-forward cider). Pop into the small brewery and sidle up to the bar for a flight, which offers four flavors in six-ounce pours ($10), or grab a pint of your favorite and just chill indoors for a change.
We’re so over Victoria's Secret. Enter Zsofia’s, the newest and chicest lingerie store in the Design District, where you can find a properly fitting bra and sexy (yet comfortable) panties without ever having to step foot inside a mall.
Playing House Hunter
You can’t throw a rock in this city right now without hitting a real-estate sign. We may not be in the market, but somehow we find ourselves circling the neighborhoods looking for an open house--just to check things out.
