5 Hippie Fashion Trends That Are Totally Back in Style

One of our great regrets in life is that we weren’t around to go to Woodstock. But just because we missed out on the legendary hippie gathering of 1969 doesn’t mean we can’t channel it in our style choices. If you’ve ever mourned the decade you were born in while listening to Jimi Hendrix on repeat, here are five trends from the ’60s and ’70s you can (and should) try out.

Bold Floral Prints

Then: Worn from head to toe.

Now: Choose one floral piece (like a flower-laden handkerchief-hem skirt) and let it be the star of the show by pairing it with a single neutral color.

Get the look: BP. ($49); Boden ($125); Diane von Furstenberg ($498)

Flared Jeans

Then: Paired with flat shoes and a longer top.

Now: Bell bottoms can be beyond flattering depending on how you style them. Instead of flats and a shapeless top, try wearing them with heels (to fake longer legs) and a closer-fitting, tucked-in tee (to show off your waist).

Get the look: Topshop ($40); Frame ($209); Citizens of Humanity ($220)

Crop Tops

Then: The motto? The higher the shirt, the lower the pants.

Now: Worn with high-waist pants or skirts, crop tops can actually look super chic and refined, all while showing off those obliques you work so hard for in Pilates.

Get the look: Madewell ($35); Free People ($58); Alo ($68)

Fringe

Then: On jackets, pants, vests and everything in between, this fringe is long and flowing and demands attention.

Now: Instead of going all in on fringe (which can look a little busy), choose a fringe accessory, like a graphic tote bag.

Get the look: Jules Kae ($79); Longchamp ($445); Loewe ($1,890)

Round Sunglasses

Then: If you vaguely resembled a bug (but, like, the chicest bug ever), you were doing it right.

Now: The silhouette is more or less the same, but today's circular sunnies come in so many more options where color, size and detailing are concerned.

Get the look: Sunnyside LA ($55); Komono ($70); Moncler ($290)
