Now that the World Naked Bike Ride is behind us (a much better angle than when it was in front of us!), we can focus our two-wheeling attention on the fun--and fully clothed--cycling events slated for this spring. Our picks for the Bay Area rides to register for now:
Napa Bike Fest At the second-annual cycling extravaganza on April 27, you can choose from four rides ($10 to $45), including a 30-miler around Carneros and a cruiser-friendly trip through historical downtown led by a docent.
Cycle SF This inaugural fun-ride--i.e., not a race--on April 28 will be the city’s most expansive, beginning in the China Basin/Mission Bay area and ending in Golden Gate Park on 13- or 24-mile routes. Entry fees ($50) go toward SF Recreation & Parks.
Bike to Work Day On May 9, tens of thousands of San Franciscans will pedal to their offices in this citywide cycling celebration. Feeling particularly civic? Ride alongside your district supervisor to City Hall, where the mayor will host a rally.
Tour de Marin Stop at Nicasio Valley Cheese Company and other local food purveyors along this 40-mile route through Marin on May 26 ($50). Cruise by redwood groves on some of the county’s new traffic-free paths.
