More Powder To Ya
Prescriptives launches Web consultations
When beloved beauty brand Prescriptives shuttered counters in 2010, we shed a few non-mascara-streaked tears. After all, these guys decidedly knew how to make products that matched our skin tone and stayed put throughout the day.
So of course we were thrilled to hear about the company’s triumphant rebirth as an exclusively online endeavor. Our only hesitation: virtually picking out foundation and pressed powder.
Enter their custom blend video service.
Here’s how it works: You set up a webcam appointment for a free 20-minute chat with a “beauty genius”. (Try to get Erica; she really knows her stuff.) She’ll ask you some questions about your skin type and makeup preferences and take a look at your gorgeous mug. It also helps to send some photos so you’re not beholden to a webcam’s fickle lighting.
A few days later you’ll receive your personalized color “recipe” via email, at which point you can log on to the Prescriptives website and place your order ($65 for foundation; $48 for powder). If the color that arrives is a tad wonky, just send it back for a revised blend, free of charge. That said, we were awfully impressed with how accurate our sample turned out.
Consider it another coup for the world of online shopping.
