Rae Vittorelli’s customizable photo-chocolates
What does a good eye, a love of sweets and a degree in 3-D fine arts get you? For Rae Vittorelli, the know-how to launch a successful line of artisanal chocolate bars printed with edible, Polaroid-style photographs.
Her company Cocoagraph launched quietly last year in Southern California but is primed to break out this holiday season, thanks to the introduction of custom bars onto which you can print any image.
Here’s how it works: You choose from a handful of sizes (ranging from 1.75” x 1.75” to 3.25” x 4.25”) for your one-of-a-kind edible creation. Next, select your flavor (milk, dark, white or organic dark) and mix-ins (dried strawberries, salted almonds, peppermint tea and more), add an optional written message and upload the image of your choice. Five to seven business days later, you’ll receive your bespoke candy bar in the mail.
Larger sizes are $14 per bar, while smaller, bite-size versions are $18 for three. In other words, they strike us as reasonably priced for a one-off holiday gift or party favor.
Our only advice: Don’t commission something that’s too beautiful to eat.
