Kick those tattered sandals to the curb and make way for fall boots, a.k.a. the closet staple that can single-handedly transform summer dresses and freshen up winter threads. Here, four new styles to test-drive this season:

Two-toned Upgrade your classic leather booties with some color-blocking. This richly toned, rugged pair by Wolverine X Samantha Pleet ($312) is striking, but we also can’t get enough of ShoeMint’s burgundy and navy Nancy ($80).

Lace-up Last season’s androgynous combat boots are looking a bit more femme these days. You won’t be able to pass on these adorable (and ultra-comfortable) wooden clogs ($177) or DSW’s Diba Pilot booties ($55), which feature block heels and side zippers.

Python Take a break from leopard print and try a different jungle vibe. Sam Edelman makes stylish low-profile booties ($160) that would look sophisticated with jeans or skirts, whereas Juicy Couture’s Roxanna boots ($278) ooze sex appeal.

Studded While your worn-in biker boots will never go out of fashion, you can make the look a little more work-ready with a pair of studded, tailored ankle boots. We love the Susanna boots by Chloé ($1,345) but will probably nab Zara’s look-alike ($189) at a significantly lower price point.
