HANG TIME
Not your average hammocks
Hammocks have long been a symbol of leisure. But innovation? Who knew? Turns out, our easy-living staple is getting a revamp. Now that cooler temperatures are in store, it’s time to say farewell to the rickety wooden frame and hello to these cool new styles.
Sporty Never struggle to balance on a flimsy hammock again, thanks to the Headdemock by Fatboy ($499). Its super-plush cushion and extra-large surface area is luxurious enough to rival your bedroom mattress. Get the same cloudlike feeling on the Nantucket Journey quick-dry hammock ($200). The durable but soft fabric has a woven-rope print to mimic the conventional style without the discomfort.
Decorative Channel an island feel with this Nicaraguan handwoven hammock from Etsy ($80). The gorgeous scalloped edges look almost too good to touch, but fear not: This hammock is totally functional. For a different spin, try Anthropologie’s Melati hanging chair ($498), which can be suspended from porch rafters or even your living-room ceiling for a relaxed upright look.
Classic Still set on a more traditional hammock? Yellow Leaf’s nautical interpretation ($160) is handmade in Thailand and packs up easily for travel, while the quilted stand set ($155) from Target is a no-nonsense fit for a shaded backyard.
