LONG AND SHORT OF IT
How to rock a high-low hemline
High-low dresses (you know: long in the back, short in the front) are everywhere this season. And while we were initially hesitant about the insta-trend, we have to admit that the look is awfully flattering. Here, how to wear it like a grown-up--and at any price point.
Under $50 If a high-low hem feels a bit unnerving, ease into it with a solid fabric. Zara’s silk tunic ($40) has a classic cut, while a brown belt adds pizzazz to Forever 21’s simple cutout-back dress ($28). Our pick for an afternoon jaunt: Anthropologie’s striped midi ($40).
Under $100 Despite the trendiness factor, a high-low dress in the right fabric can quickly become a wardrobe staple. BCBGeneration’s color-block style ($98) has a timeless appeal, and Kenneth Cole’s sporty and sleek version ($59) will easily transition from summer to fall. Felicity & Coco’s comfortable jersey tank dress ($68) is just plain wear-everywhere.
$150 and up For a fancier affair, we’re loving Anthropologie’s silky asymmetric offering ($188) and BCBGMAXAZRIA’s teal number ($248). Final beach vacation in the works? Twelfth St. by Cynthia Vincent’s jewel-toned piece ($326) will look great by the pool, as will this racerback pullover from Calypso ($265).
