Of course we pamper our pups. But when it comes to pet furniture, sophistication is no frivolity--if it goes in our home, it's got to look good. Below, our picks for dog beds that are high on form and function.
Along more traditional lines, we love P.L.A.Y.'s cotton beds ($95 to $150). All the removable, patterned covers are smart and chic, but the Victorian Cameo and Chandelier designs are our favorites, especially for more regal pooches.
We also support looks that go beyond the classic cushion. Pawsitively Modern's hip Indoor Dog Den ($275) and Modern Object's Dwelling ($1,500)--which features an arched roof and skylight--are cool enough to be mistaken for non-canine abodes. Meanwhile, the Wowo Dog Pod ($598) is equal parts style (rounded bent ply, your choice of veneer) and utility (washable padding for inevitable accidents).
But as devout space-optimizers, we're most impressed by furniture that serves double duty. The Hunde Hus ($650), for instance, is a sleek bedside table and a cozy dog den. Likewise, Refined Canine's Igloo bed ($125) transforms from quiet doggy-hideaway to folksy, rattan end-table, just by turning it around.
If only the litter box was as inconspicuous.
