Patterned tile makes home a happy place
We've been admiring the beautiful trend in patterned tile seen everywhere from family kitchens to commercial spaces. Now we've tracked down a great local artisan whose ready-made and custom wares are the best examples of such peppy yet tasteful designs.
Kismet Tile is Tracey Reinberg's line of brilliant patterned tile. Her ever-expanding repertoire of patterns is inspired by childhood visits to San Antonio's boldly tiled McNay Art Museum, as well as her 15 years as a commercial surfaces designer for companies such as Maharam and Knoll.
Kismet is less than a year old, so for now Reinberg brings her samples on house calls to consult on a project-by-project basis (though she hopes to open a storefront in Silverlake by year's end).
Tiles are fabricated in Morocco using centuries-old (read: durable) production methods, so there's a bit of a turnaround time--10 to 12 weeks. At a cost of $25 a square foot, Reinberg's brilliant work is competitive with other options in the luxury tile market.
Her work is suitable for indoor-outdoor--good thing we found her just as we're redoing our deck. It must be, well, kismet.
