We’ve long been fans of the Abbot Kinney shop A + R, which is known for edgy, contemporary home accessories. So when we heard the design-forward founders, Andy Griffith and Rose Apodaca, were opening a larger, second location on La Brea, we had to take a look.
The space is essentially a streamlined white 2,300-square-foot box with a grid on the ceiling from which to hang lights and display other wares. There's lots of floor space to display larger furniture, such as the Woody Hi Shelving System ($1,680) and the oak-and-steel Adaptable Table ($1,800).
Our recent trip to the shop resulted in a messy-desk makeover, thanks to the purchase of a few cool accessories--namely a curvy power strip ($30) and colorful cable clips ($10) to unsnarl the cord tangle. We even found the answer to our mobile device woes: the Refresh Charging Station ($90), which charges a cell phone, Bluetooth, iPod and more.
The pièce de résistance: the mid-century-modern-styled, totally tricked-out Bluelounge StudioDesk (from $665), which we’ve officially put on our Christmas wish list.
