Here is the great mystery of outdoor furniture: Why do so many styles come with optional rain covers? And who wants to look at covered-up furniture, anyway?
Now our worries are assuaged with the new Cord Collection pieces from Venice-based Ilan Dei Studio. The groovy five-piece collection is made of powder-coated steel wrapped with cording that never has to be sheltered from the elements. Inspired by modernist string chairs dotting Palm Desert, the design team made their versions even more durable, comfortable and colorful by using strong, springy vinyl in orange, moss green, sage and lime.
Our favorite pieces are the snuggle-ready lounge ($799) and ottoman ($399). There’s also a statement-making 96-inch sofa with Sunbrella cushions ($2,999). The brand-new collection isn’t yet available in stores, but you can review it online and set up an appointment to see everything at the firm’s Venice studio.
A trip there is an adventure in itself, since you’ll get a look into all the studio’s projects, from fabricating fancy metal banisters to designing cutting-edge residential and commercial interiors including the sunny Lemonade restaurants.
With the Cord Collection, we might never come in from the rain ourselves.
