Fresh seafood with a Japanese twist
Q: What do Gwyneth Paltrow, Jerry Seinfeld, Jimmy Fallon and Matt Lauer have in common?
A: Shuko Beach.
The Japanese pop-up opened by two former Masa chefs may be only a month old, but it’s already well on its way to beating Nick & Toni’s when it comes to celeb clout.
Fittingly, the prices aren’t exactly mild ($10 for a tea) and the portions are rather model-esque. But the service, quality of ingredients and presentation are top-notch.
Indeed, all ingredients come from local purveyors, which makes their signature dishes--like summer tempura and scallop crudo--extra farm-fresh.
Our tip: Arrive 30 minutes before your reservation and head to the patio for a Japanese-inspired cocktail such as the Last Samurai, made with white rum, matcha green tea and coconut water. Pairs well with a side of people-watching.
