Even if it’s not the next great American novel, the things you write every day affect your long-term success. Business proposals, marketing brochures and even email correspondence are all chapters in your company’s story.

That’s why a writing community called StoryStudio Chicago is offering a class called Words for Work: the Fundamentals of Business Writing. The one-day workshop on Wednesday ($345 includes lunch) promises more precise, effective business writing, whether you’re an entry-level admin or a senior vice president. Studio director Jill Pollack demonstrates how journalistic and creative techniques like imagery and simile can help you compose everything from correspondence to website copy--even tweets.

Offered in StoryStudio Chicago’s original Ravenswood loft, the seminar runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and includes lunch. We especially love the studio’s endless supply of tea, coffee and candy. (For a more intensive experience, a ten-week Business Writing Certificate program begins October 2 and costs $845.)

For suburban scribes, StoryStudio’s new North Shore location has the same supportive living-room vibe. The Winnetka studio offers classes like Essay Writing: Essentials, Poetry as Storytelling, Mystery Writing and more.

For a primer on the process, go to one of StoryStudio’s upcoming open houses (tomorrow in Chicago and August 22 in Winnetka)--and don’t forget to take notes.
