SWEET DREAMS
Mini desserts are our latest fixation
We were amazed by the inventiveness of a camp-themed party we attended earlier this month: From the coffee-table bonfire dreamed up by Estera Events to a dinner spread of mini hot dogs and pretty deviled eggs, the party was a perfect complement to the hilarious new book by a Chicago author it celebrated.
The most delicious thing that night was the adorable mini s’mores our hosts served for dessert. We learned they’re the recent creation of Boutique Bars, a collaboration between Chicago catering company Boutique Bites and confectioner Truffle Truffle.
The owners of the two businesses, Elaina Vazquez and Nicole Greene, developed the new line that we bet will win out as the latest party dessert of choice. Their bite-size sweets are beautiful and playful; varieties include Twix-inspired bars, brunch bars and PB&J bars ($2.50 to $3 a bar; minimum order is two dozen).
To us, that single mouthful of s’more--with its graham-sugar-cookie base, dark-chocolate ganache and vanilla-marshmallow brûlée--represented the fun and whimsy of childhood summers but with a complexity we’re glad we can appreciate as grown-ups.
Cupcakes, you’ve met your match.
