KEEP MOVING
The Dailey Method's new calorie-buster
Little movements, big results: It’s the philosophy that made Pilates famous and spawned variations like the Dailey Method, the barre-based system for creating longer, leaner bodies through controlled strengthening and stretching.
And, as if the original Dailey classes weren’t tough enough, this month heralds the introduction of an all-new level of pain (and satisfaction): a class called Dailey Deeper, a faster-paced take on the concept that elevates your heart rate enough to make it a true cardio experience.
During the Daily Deeper class we tried--a marathon hour of nearly imperceptible pulses of various muscles--Bucktown (and North Shore) studio-owner Tami Conway kept reminding her winded disciples that this workout is meant to trump even full-on activities like running.
With a little practice, Dailey Deeper ($20 per session) could become our new go-to for burning 800 calories fast; we stretched places that hadn’t been stretched and burned in places that have definitely needed to burn for a very long time.
And the next day--well, until you try it, it’s probably best to leave that part to your imagination.
