Dermaplaning is excellent for exfoliating after a long winter, but you have to really, really trust your aesthetician to go under the tiny, ultrasharp razor blade that she'll use to scrape away three weeks' worth of dry skin to reveal a fresher-looking face.
Does it hurt? Not a bit. "It feels sandpapery, like a cat is licking your face," said our capable technician at Lakeview's Salon & Spa Blue, as we settled in for the quick half-hour treatment ($85; can be combined with a mild peel for an extra $45). She was right: The scraping is gentle, and not only did it lift away dry skin, it left our face completely peach-fuzz free.
Salon & Spa Blue introduced dermaplaning (or epidermal leveling) to its menu this month after putting staffers through an in-depth training course. The results are more intense than those delivered by most facials: Our skin felt supersoft and evenness looked improved; things only got better after a night's sleep.
It's an easy way to set your skin on a smooth-sailing course right into spring.
